Maybe we just haven’t spent enough time among Amphicar enthusiasts, but it seems like every example we’ve come across has either been used for pleasure boating or power parking. This 1962 Amphicar 770 for sale on Hemmings.com, however, spent a few decades as a duck hunting vehicle, which explains its departure from showroom condition. From the seller’s description:
All original with only 5,500 miles. I purchased from original owner in 1999 who only used for duck hunting and has hand painted the body in brown for camouflage, the original colour is turquoise. The interior is original and in good condition but requires carpet. The convertible top frame is in good condition but the canvas top needs replacing. The tires are also original and have lots of tread but should be replaced as the sidewalls are cracking. The car has been stored in a heated garage since new but last year I found the wheel cylinders starting to seize so I replaced all wheel cylinders, flex hoses, master cylinder, wheel bearings and the special Amphicar water proof break linings. I also replaced 4 new hub caps and a new bilge pump. This car/boat is street drivable but needs some seals replaced before going in the water again, I have the seals but no time to put them on, I will include the new seals with the car purchase. There is no rust, the pictures show the floor-pan with original black paint which shows glossy as I have just waxed the floor, all panels are in perfect condition. This vehicle requires some minor restoration including a slight bearing noise in the transmission?
